Green Bike Project
The Green Bike Project is a community bike program that the Student Wellness Advisory Committee intitially took on and quickly found other organizations to partner on. While SWAC has taken the lead on the Green Bike Project it is an entity in itself that is made possible by sponsorships, partners, donations and volunteers coming together to make the project a success. The Green Bike Project is simply an effort to provide a enviromentally friendly transportation option for the UND students and UND community. The idea is to initially keep the program simple. How does it work you may ask?
The Green Bike Project uses donated bikes and paints them entirely green. The bikes are for university students and UND community members to use, free of charge. UND students are encouraged to pick up a bike to ride on campus and all that we ask is.....
If you see an ENTIRELY Green Bike...
DO feel free to ride it
DO follow the local bike laws
DO ride at your own risk
DO wear a helmet
DO return it to a bike rack
DO use only on UND's campus
DO call for repairs (701) 777-4485
And Please....
Do NOT ride a broken bike
Do NOT keep the bike
Do NOT ride beyond your ability
Do NOT ride at night
Do NOT lock the bike up for your private use
Do NOT forget to ENJOY the ride!
Do, do not idea taken from St. Cloud State.
The initial fleet of about 30 bikes was launched on April 22nd, Earth Day! We will continue to seek out additional bikes to add to the fleet through donations. It is our hope that this phenomenon takes off and is something that the UND community gets excited about, participates in, and helps support it's continued success!
If you have a bike to donate please contact us at wellness@mail.und.edu. All we ask is that the donated bike be like new condition.
